Have you noticed that once you commit to something and you get the ball rolling on it, every day gets a little bit easier? What once felt like a chore is now something you look forward to. You want to read about it, study, talk about it and share your experiences. The momentum is exciting and all you have to do is keep up.
Of course it works in the other direction as well, when we get into that space where things don't seem to be working as we expected and we just want to hide, sleep, cry, rage and feel sorry for ourselves. The key to turning it around is to take action. Set a timer, allow yourself to emote, express, sleep or be in a funk. Once the timer goes off, Stop it. Play some uplifting music - I love Happy by Pharrell - and start dancing wildly. Watch or listen to something funny. Go for a walk. Meditate or take a yoga class. Schedule a date with a friend. Most importantly, have gratitude. Create a new habit by setting an alarm every day to remind yourself to have a moment of gratitude. Gratitude is expansive and is the quickest way to turn us from feeling anger, fear, sadness, anxiety to experiencing joy, love, peace, understanding, appreciation. And remember, what you focus on grows.
