There was a long period of my life where I felt like I white knuckled it from the fall daylight savings time to the time change in the spring. Holding on through those dark winter months just waiting for the longer evenings again. Gratefully, in the last years, I have not experienced that intense holding on feeling. Instead, I have found this period as an opportunity for greater reflection and time for myself. I typically use these months for more yoga, walking and rest with less running and intense training. I still celebrate and enjoy the time change in the spring. The longer evenings give a boost of energy and appreciation for the sun. How have I made this shift from white knuckling to appreciation? I am part of a community that uplifts and inspires me, I eat a healthy, balanced plant based diet, I practice yoga and meditation, maintain regular physical fitness and have a strong gratitude practice. Through this, I feel mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually supported and am better able to withstand extremes with grace, gratitude and compassion.
